There’s no other way to say it, We LOVE Guacamole! It’s delicious, refreshing, spicy… it’s tasting a bit of Mexico on a chip!
Guacamole is an avocado-based spread that originated with the Aztecs in Mexico. Its name comes from the nahuatl word, “ahuacamolli“, a combination of two words “Ahuacatl” (avocado) and “molli” (sauce). Besides being one of the most popular typical snacks and its important role in the modern Mexican cuisine, it has become part of American cuisine as a dip, condiment and salad ingredient.
Guacamole is easy to make and incredibly tasty, and as all recipies it has many variations, but here we share with you the most popular for you to prepare a tasty homemade guacamole.
Ingredients:
- 2 avocados
- 1/4 onion, chopped
- 1/2 lime juice
- 1 tomato
- Serrano (or jalepeño) chili pepper, finely chopped
Recipe:
The recipe is very easy – it all starts with mashing the ripe avocados. Originally, this was done with a molcajete (mortar and pestle) but a fork can also adequately do the job. You need to get a uniform consistency. Chop the tomato and onion, add the juice of 1/2 lime, and season with salt and chili. Some people add chopped cilantro and also top with a little bit of cheese on top.
A common variety of the recipe is making guacamole as a sauce – for this, you only need to add green tomato sauce together with milk or cream to create a more liquid texture.
Guacamole is easy and ideal to enjoy during those hot summer days by the pool while visiting us in Punta Mita, or if you are not lucky enough to join us here, this might be a good way to get a little bit of the Mexican summer to your home.
If you are in Punta Mita and would like to try guacamole made by the experts, we recommend stopping by Punta Mita Residents’ Beach Club, Si Señor or Margaritas.
And an extra tip, it tastes much better with a cold beer or a tequila!
